Wallpaper* Handmade – August 2010

For its most ambitious issue to date, Wallpaper* has brought together and briefed some of the world’s leading designers, craftsmen and manufacturers to produce unique furniture, fittings, foodstuffs, fashion and more. The August Handmade issue is dedicated to this astonishing collection of one-off designs and delicacies, chronicling their production and presentation at this year’s Salone del Mobile.

FLASK Spooner+Watts

It’s hard not to be impressed by the way Grace Spooner and Lucie Watts have transformed humble backgammon sets, step stools, vintage school chairs and brown paper bags into covetable accessories swathed in soft leather. Each product is made to order by hand using traditional methods such as gluing lasts together and using stitching only where necessary, for the strongest possible finish. Commissioning the duo to create the ultimate picnic flask was a no-brainer, especially when our everyday coffee is now decanted from a sleek hold wrapped in elegant brown shagreen.
